Mocassin Lake

We are excited to be partnering with Moccasin Lake Nature Park, a 50 acre wild reserve in the heart of the most populated county on the East Coast - Pinellas - for our early 2012 series of courses and workshops. The park offers many opportunities to learn from the natural world as well as some exciting permaculture design potential. We couldn't ask for a better place to facilitate permaculture education. The park has already implemented a number of aspects of sustainability with off grid capacity, including solar panels, compost toilets and a windmill to pump water from well. Location: 2750 Park Trail Lane  Clearwater, FL 33759 (727) 793-2976
Moccasin Lake Water Tower There is a lot of future potential, as well with plans for food production, including a food forest, aquaculture, native edibles, and more. An immediate neighbor is a watershed to the bay, providing a beautiful place to enjoy lunch while observing water systems. The classroom is climate controlled and includes a refrigerator and microwave; there is a learning center and museum that illustrates the local ecosystems and wildlife. We feel the rich and diverse environment of Moccasin Lake Nature Park is the perfect place to learn permaculture. 1 & 1/4 mile of natural and board walked trails moccasinlake 3-acre watershed restoration area 3 natural gas grills 5-acre lake 51-acre nature preserve ADA-accessible facility Administrative office on-site Bird walks, bird-watching tours and workshops Captive, permanently injured, non-releasable wildlife Children's nature camps Composting and conventional restroom facilities Environmental agency meeting site for: Clearwater Audubon Suncoast Herpatological Society Suncoast Sierra Club Environmental programs and classes Fabrication workshop Fireside concert series Free recycled mulch and wood chips Gift counter Guided tours and group hikes Interactive educational displays Live wildlife exhibits including: Aquatic wildlife Birds of prey Butterfly garden Plants, native plants, and poisonous plants displays moccasn5 Reptiles & amphibians
