Urban Permaculture Design Course

Moccasin Lake Nature Park

2759 Park Trail Lane,Clearwater, Florida

Driving Directions

Seven Weekends from February 18 through 15 April 2012
9 AM – 5 PM
February 18-19, 2012
Learn to design your life to live more sustainably and regeneratively. This course is a comprehensive look at all aspects of sustainable living. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate of completion.
Moccasin Lake Nature Park is 50 acres of wilderness in the middle of one of the most densely populated areas on the east coast. This city park is a budding demonstration site for sustainable living and practices with solar power, compost toilets and a windmill water pump and filter. This class will be designing a permaculture food system and other permaculture systems for this park – a historic opportunity to be a part of creating a permaculture public space for this area!

Based on feedback from students we’ve expanded the course to seven weekends to allow more time for field trips and hands on activities. Planned activities include cob building, hands on gardening, water catchment, design tools, and more. We’ve added many new hand outs, some dynamic new expert instructors, and assistants who can help ensure you get your questions answered.

Mocassin Lake

We are excited to be partnering with Moccasin Lake Nature Park, a 50 acre wild reserve in the heart of the most populated county on the East Coast – Pinellas – for our early 2012 series of courses and workshops. The park offers many opportunities to learn from the natural world as well as some exciting permaculture design potential. We couldn’t ask for a better place to facilitate permaculture education.

The park has already implemented a number of aspects of sustainability with off grid capacity, including solar panels, compost toilets and a windmill to pump water from well.

Moccasin Lake Water Tower

There is a lot of future potential, as well with plans for food production, including a food forest, aquaculture, native edibles, and more. An immediate neighbor is a watershed to the bay, providing a beautiful place to enjoy lunch while observing water systems. The classroom is climate controlled and includes a refrigerator and microwave; there is a learning center and museum that illustrates the local ecosystems and wildlife. We feel the rich and diverse environment of Moccasin Lake Nature Park is the perfect place to learn permaculture.

Products For The Permaculture Designer

Some of these products are not strictly ideal by permaculture standards, yet can fullfill a need during the complete transition and can be an improvement over existing products. An example of this would be having a front lawn that you have plans to plant a food forest sometime down the road and instead of using a gas or electric lawn mower you can upgrade to a reel/push mower. Please feel free to contact us on any products available and known that meet permaculture standards or way of thinking so we can add them here for our Permaculture Friends.
