Experts in food forestry, green building, alternative energy, financial permaculture, sustainable community building and more will show you how to design every aspect of your life to live more sustainably and achieve a higher quality of life. Main instructors are Cory Brennan and Ken Benway. A host of additional guest instructors will be presenting as well.
This course is very interactive with community building occurring from the first day, based on surveys of what our students want and creation of a number of successful community projects.
Graduates will complete a professional permaculture design in teams, with mentoring, and will receive a professional certificate upon completion of the course requirements.
The course will be taught over six weekends at Sacred Lands in Saint Petersburg, FL and in addition to onsite guided tours at various Permaculture Project locations throughout the Tampabay area.
We are applying for college credits for the course and expect to have a course number shortly – credits will be accepted at any Florida University.
In conjunction with the Tampabay Urban Permaculture Design Course, we will also offer a number of other programs including weekend workshops covering specific skill sets and film showings.
In addition, we offer after course mentoring, career counseling, and network support (see our “Grads in Action” for some examples). Though many students simply want the knowledge to apply to their own homes and neighborhoods, a number of our students are making money using permaculture design and we support and facilitate that in whatever way we can do so.
| NEW!! For the Fall PDC, we are now offering several new payment options. Our goal is to make it more flexible and easier for individuals to participate in our courses and related workshops. Edible Forest Gardens at Pine Ridge

Sept 6-Sept 10, 2010
This forest workshop is offered in an indigenous setting on the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. Our workshop has a strong hands on component. We will be designing and planting a food forest on a sustainable homestead site on the reservation that will provide food for a Lakota family.
During the workshop, you will learn how to install a beautiful forest garden in your yard that mimics that natural ecologies of the forest and provides for human needs. Enjoy abundant, healthy, fresh food harvested from your yard almost year round (with root cellar and cold frames at Pine Ridge). We can grow an abundance of food through observing natural systems and applying these patterns to our gardens.
You will camp out at the homestead site, experience living on the reservation, and have opportunities to interact with the Lakota community.
You will learn:
* How to prepare soil so that it increases in fertility
* How to choose plants for your forest garden
* How to keep plants healthy and productive organically and with minimal work
* How to design your garden so that it flourishes and maintains its health
* How to get a good yield in the first year and increase your yield into the future.
Cost is $520, which includes camping, meals, and a teeshirt from the Lakota community. This helps funds Lakota participation and two permaculture projects in the community.
Be sure to bring clothing for warm and cool weather as it is variable in Sept.
